COMMITMENT FOR TODAY

God’s Word is full of promises for His chosen people today. We are part of His special family – His glorious church (I Peter 2:9). What about our commitment? Are we following His Word and obeying His commandments?
Or do we try to help God fulfill His promises, and work things out to please ourselves?
Luke 12:31 and Matthew 6:33 both remind us that God knows we have need of certain things. He understands that we need food, clothing, and shelter. He sees the desires of our hearts for family and friends, and a purpose in life. After all, He made us. His desire is that we would allow Him to work things out for our good. When we take matters into our own hands without asking, seeking, and desiring His will first, we find ourselves in lots of trouble. But when we seek Him first,

He never fails.

Believers should constantly (daily, hourly, ALWAYS) seek God’s will, even about things like work, school, and
daily living. Does this mean that we should sit down
somewhere and not work or go to school and just allow
God to do everything for us? NO! It means that every
day, our decisions should be based on following God’s
laws and plans. His Word gives us clear direction for all
of life, and when obedience to His Word is first, He will
take care of the rest for us.

“Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou
envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall
soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green
herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell
in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself
also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of
thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in
him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth
thy righteousness, as the light, and thy judgment as the
noonday” (Psalm 37:1-6).

These verses give us some instructions:
1. Do not worry.
2. Trust in the Lord.
3. Do good.
4. Delight thyself in the Lord.
5. Commit thy way unto the Lord.
6. Trust also in him.

Obedience to these instructions will bring the following rewards:

1. Thou shalt dwell in the land.
2. Thou shalt be fed.
3. He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
4. He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light.
5. Thy judgment shall come as the noonday.

• In our Christian walk, when troubles come, God has promised to carry them for us, if we will only let Him.

“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved” (Psalm 55:22).
• Before any plans are made, check God’s Word and talk to Him about whether or not they are right.
“Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established” (Proverbs 16:3).
If our works and motives (pleasing God by doing His will) are right, we can commit them to the Lord, and He will establish them and bless us.
